Ein Sommertag - A Summer Day

this is is the finest impression we have seen of this very SCARCE print; it was executed at the time Orlik left Raab's engraving school in order to widen his experience of etching techniques; here he shows the expertise he had taught himself in the use of aquatint, soft ground and even roulette work and has added elements of drypoint to achieve highly atmospheric effects from such a small plate; the composition, with the two men set to the left of centre, with the white house behind, accentuates the feeling of a summer day in the fields
