this etching was issued as the frontispiece for the privately printed memorial book for Eduard Arnold which was published by his widow in a small edition; not for sale but given to his colleagues. The few impressons of the etching which have come on to the market were probably removed from some of the books
In good condition apart from very pale overall light stain.

Eduard Arnold (1863 - 1925) was a wealthy Berlin banker and patron of the arts. He was a friend of Max Liebermann as well as Orlik. He was highly influential in the building up of industry in Germany in the latter part of the 19th and early 20th centuries
